What does the job involve?

The primary responsibility of the Utility Person position is the use sandblasting equipment, forklifts, and carpentry tools. Responsibilities include moving equipment/loading trucks with forklift, sandblasting or cleaning a variety of surfaces for the painting process, and packaging equipment for shipment within boxes and crates.

What will my responsibilities include?

    1. Adheres to all safety rules and uses proper personal protective equipment.
    2. Organize and maintain work area to achieve safe, clean and efficient operations.
    3. Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    4. Operate industrial truck to move materials around facility.
    5. Work with lumber/crates/skids packaging products appropriately to prevent damage in transit.
    6. Operate air powered abrasive blasting equipment to remove mill scale, rust and other foreign matter to prepare for the paint process.
    7. Performs other duties and assignments as directed by management.

What qualifications should I have?

  • A minimum of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School Diploma.
  • Must have good organizational and communication skills and ability to work well with external and internal customers, must be able to read and write in English.
  • Must have good math skills, be able to use a calculator for conversion purposes and read a tape measure well.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to pass a pulmonary function exam and respirator breathing/fit test.
  • Previous forklift certification/license and experience using blasting tools and equipment as well as corrosion control methods and processes preferred.
