What does the job involve?

Summary: Sets up and operates radiographic equipment to x-ray parts per Aerospace Industry and company specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Sets up and operates equipment to x-ray parts as they come into the x-ray areas.
  • Checks shop orders and makes sure the paperwork is in order before receiving parts for x-ray.
  • Secures technique sheets sections that are about to be radiographed.
  • Able to follow technique cards on all parts x-rayed.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or 2 years of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have Radiography 1 (40) hour classroom training certificate.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities: Must be able to read and interpret blueprints. Must understand the use of check templates. Understands how to use an x-ray machine and the process of x-ray production. Able to understand the five basic variables used to produce some exposure techniques, such as KV, MA, time, distance, and material thickness. Able to read and understand ASTM- E- 1742. Must know that the work they are doing is in accordance with Aerospace Industry and Company specifications. Under the Inverse Square Law: intensity varies inversely with the square of the distance. Must have the ability to qualify as a Film Processor. Must be able to obtain and maintain Level I certification.

Tools used:

  • Materials worked with x-ray film, radiographic equipment, prop jigs and radiographic accessories.

Materials used:

  • Ferrous and non- ferrous metals and their alloys in the form of raw stock and replacement parts, radiographic film and various types of metal parts / assemblies.
