Who is Senior Aerospace Weston?

Senior Aerospace Weston, located in Lancashire, England, is a leading supplier of a wide range of complex precision machined components, and sub- assemblies for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs’) predominantly in the commercial aviation market sector. Our experience and core capabilities support multiple segments of an aircraft’s build, including the manufacture of engine compressor and fan components, engine pylon mounting brackets, pintles, wing ribs and associated aero-structure components. We aim to support our customers with a complete solution, including supply chain management and delivery of line-side kits where appropriate.

Manufacturing Engineer – CADCAM

Reporting to the Engineering Team Leader you will be responsible for development and creation of methods of manufacture, jig & tool design, CNC Programming and automation. The Manufacturing Engineer – CADCAM will develop machine tool programs using a combination of Catia V5, Hypermill, Vericut and any other programming / simulation software that the company considers a long-term strategic fit.  

Key Accountabilities

NPI

  • Define methods of manufacture
  • Develop tooling strategies
  • Design fixtures with particular attention to fool proofing (Poke Yoke)
  • Liaise with customer technical contact
  • Develop and prove out CNC Programs using the relevant software package as outlined within the contract
  • Be a key player within the NPI process and have a working awareness of APQP, PPAP, PPQ & FPA

New Business Bid Support

  • Assist with standard time estimating to ensure the optimal method of manufacture is adopted
  • Use the above time estimates to support the bid process
  • The ability to quickly determine the most effective method of manufacture – i.e. machine selection
  • Knowledge and understanding of customer specifications, material types, machining and assembly requirements and have a basic knowledge of surface treatments

Continuous Improvement

  • To continually identify and implement improvement initiatives to manufacturing process
  • To participate in Continuous Improvement events and be able to apply the LEAN manufacturing tools and techniques that form part of the Senior Operating System (SOS)
  • Use process capability studies to drive improvements
  • To actively identify cost reduction and productivity improvement opportunities
  • To be knowledgeable in practical problem solving and be capable of applying the techniques to defect investigations and implement corrective actions

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Training required

  • Time Served Skilled Engineer / HNC Qualified
  • Competent communicator
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Able to work unsupervised to ensure all above duties are complete within specified timeframes
  • Project planning and project management experience
  • Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

These are the main duties and responsibilities however additional task may be required to meet the needs of the business, in discussions with the Manufacturing Manager.
