JOB SUMMARY: Coordinate necessary activities for the external calibration of instrumentation and equipment. Maintain, test and repair a variety of instrumentation and equipment. Create procedures for internal calibration of instrumentation and equipment. Maintain a database of all calibrated instrumentation and equipment to ensure traceability to current calibration records. Work with department/area managers and supervisors to ensure the timely recall of equipment nearing its calibration due date. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that equipment, instruments, gauges and devices used in the inspection, measurement, or testing of customer product are calibrated correctly and give accurate readings.

 

Essential Elements:

1. Implement and maintain procedures and electronic tracking systems required to fulfill the requirements of government, customer, Company and applicable ASTM and NIST/ISO calibration specifications (especially those defined in AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 10012, and ISO 17025).

2. Establish and maintain an instrument/equipment calibration program. Perform scheduled inspections and audits, determine the need for adjustment and/or repair, and determine if calibration can be performed internally or whether it must be done by an approved vendor.

3. Develop procedures and instructions for the management of the calibration system, and for the calibration of specific instruments which can be calibrated internal to the organization.

4. Work from specifications, schedules, and written/verbal instructions. Receive, issue, calibrate and repair inspection, measuring, and test equipment to ensure accurate and reliable functionality

5. Actively monitor the electronic tracking system for inspection, measuring, and test equipment that is nearing its calibration due date. Coordinate with the departments to ensure equipment is removed from service prior to its calibration due date. When necessary, actively search for and retrieve equipment that has reached or passed its calibration due date.

6. Using judgment and experience, present calibration extension requests to Quality management/engineering for approval where there is minimal/no risk to customer product impact.

7. Audit and evaluate outside calibration laboratories and maintain a list of approved calibration suppliers.

8. Review the inspection, measuring and test equipment in each manufacturing and manufacturing support department to ensure equipment meets the department’s business needs. Recommend the purchase of new equipment, replacement or upgrade of existing equipment.

9. Work with vendors to order the necessary parts for repair of inspection, measuring or test equipment

Requirements:

Minimum five (5) years’ experience as calibration technician working for a calibration service provider or in a manufacturing environment

Familiarity with calibration tracking software (preferred IndySoft)

Preferred Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) certification/American Society for Quality (ASQ)
