What Does the Job Involve?

The Estimator will prepare accurate cost estimates of producing products and assesses the cost-effectiveness of make versus buy decisions by developing detailed labor sequences, material requirements, tooling costs, and initial startup costs from very complicated product drawings or systems.

What Will My Day to Day Be Like?

  • Initiates make/buy decisions, develops raw/purchased material and subcontract plan from customer blueprints and specifications, develops sketches/drawings (O.I.S.'s) as needed, initiates RFQ's, coordinates suppliers, evaluates responses, structures estimated bill of material, and enters pricing accordingly.
  • Reviews customer or in-house RFQ for all appurtenant data; calculates and determines time standards; develops manufacturing plans, support tooling plans, indirect departments start-up and nonrecurring support costs, and manufacturing and delivery schedules.
  • Coordinates, guides, and reviews the proposal efforts of other less experienced estimators for large proposals to determine if approach and logic are valid and consistent with standards set by the department and E & P Manual.
  • Reviews data and analyzes cost-effectiveness of follow on proposals.
  • Reviews customer drawings and requirements to determine if design changes could be incorporated to enhance the competitiveness of the proposal.

What Qualifications Should I Have?

  • Technical Degree or equivalent
  • Experience: 5 – 7 Yeas experience as Estimator in Manufacturing Aerospace
