What does the job involve?

Summary: Requires x-ray quality precision welding of company and customer products in compliance with rigid customer and engineering specifications and requirements using GTAW process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Determines from nature of assignments, blueprints, welding manuals, and established procedures, the sequence of welding operations, tolerances and dimensional requirements and correct relationship of parts.
  • Performs difficult gas, inert gas arc or metallic arc welding of any types of metals and their alloys on all surfaces (flat, horizontal, vertical or circular) of product parts and assemblies.
  • Weld formed parts and assemblies where evenness of fit and smoothness of contour is critical.
  • Weld tanks, pressure vessels, piping, and similar items which are subjected to high pressure or stress where soundness and penetration of the weld is a vial factor.
  • Weld parts and assemblies reducing warping and troubleshooting warping.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or 1-2 years of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Other Abilities: Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and sketches for easily identified reference information. Recognizes when parts are not fit-up properly. Must be able to use grinding and cleaning materials and equipment for proper cleaning. Recognizes material that has not been properly cleaned or etched. Must be able to recognize improper functioning of machines and unacceptable welds. Possess basic knowledge of metallurgy and metallography. Must fulfill welding requirements of lower job classification. Shall qualify to AMS-STD-1595A and OCD #9 to 6G and 5F positions which includes but is not limited to Groups I, II, III, IV, and VI. Weld shall pass both radiographic and metallographic examinations.  Must understand all weld symbols and weld specifications. Candidates must submit weld samples from three different material groups (Group IIb, IIIb, IV) for visual, radiographic and metallographic acceptance and a physical visual eye examination is required.

Tools used:

  • Helmet and hand tools required for shop welder, clamps, scales, and fixtures.

Materials used:

  • Emery cloth, cleaning solvents, welding gases, ferrous and non- ferrous metals and their alloys in the form of tube, flat or formed sheet stock, forged materials, bar stock, castings and extrusions.

ITAR Compliance:
