What does the job involve?
The Machinist 5 creates tooling for new jobs, sets up and operates numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate aerospace parts per engineering specifications.
What will my responsibilities include?
- Reads and understands engineering drawings with a high level of skill.
- Inspects manufactured parts with a high level of skill
Is able to run all machine centers after being familiarized with the controls
- Is able to tool proof first-run jobs and gives feedback to CNC Programmers or Run 1 Team in order to resolve manufacturing problems
- Sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve and input computerized machine control media without supervision
- Consistently creates and runs a first part that meet engineering specifications without supervision
- Able to operate a variety of machine centers
- Understands and applies optimal part holding techniques
- Accurately manufactures new tooling or repairs used tooling
- Analyzes and solves manufacturing problems with a high level of skill
- Uses tools to find machine work offsets
- Recognizes machine deviation versus cutter or holding problems and adjusts accordingly to meet specifications
- Runs parts that meet engineering specification without supervision.
- Reads, understands and interprets engineering drawings
What key skills and experience do I need?
- Strong skills and aptitude in math
- Ability to perform basic functions with MS Windows-based computer operating systems, such as opening and closing files
- Seven years on-the-job experience operating CNC machines
- Completion of Machine Proficiency test during interview process
What qualifications should I have?
- Demonstrates a good attitude toward work and arrives on time for start of shift
- Properly uses all tools necessary to complete a set up and inspect first part to be submitted for buy-off
- Follows instructions and demonstrates strong attention to detail
- Communicates well verbally and in writing
- Good manual dexterity and sense of spatial relationships
