What does the job involve?

Design custom expansion joints for piping systems using established standards.  Provide technical assistance to the production and quality control departments to insure that parts are in compliance the requirements of the customer, code, company standards, and manufacturing capabilities. 

What will my responsibilities include?

  1. Prepare production drawings using 3D models created in Solidworks. Assess and provide sufficient product views and details to communicate information and or data needed for fabrication. Work closely with all departments to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information and are error free.
  2. Check part and assembly 3D models for interference using scale views and animation (covers, monitor ports, lugs, nozzles, gimbal rings, etc). Recommend or make dimensional adjustments as necessary.
  3. Consider manufacturability issues. Is there room for a welder to make weld? Is there access to make each weld?
  4. Prepare and check drawings and documentation that support compliance with requirements of the customer, code, company standards and manufacturing capabilities.
  5. Recommend and implement changes to resolve conformance issues. Communicate changes or problems resulting in deviations from what was sold or specified. Conference with customer and/or internal personnel as needed to discuss design problem areas and to insure that the products meet all requirements. Work from customer supplied drawings and specifications as well as SFP’s quotation and Sales order.
  6. Manage several projects at one time.
  7. Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

What key skills and experience do I need?

  1. Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or higher preferred
  2. Certified Solidworks Associate (CSWA) certification or higher preferred, CAD/ Design or 5 years relevant experience. 1 year drawing/designing specific product experience a plus.
  3. Must be able to read, interpret, and use various Code standards and customer-supplied documentation.
  4. Familiarity with ASME Section VIII and B31.1 design code requirements a plus.
  5. Able to work with minimum supervision and capable of self-checking for completeness and accuracy of work produced.
  6. Computer literate in 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred) and Microsoft Office.
  7. Willingness to learn, try things outside the norm, and think outside the box for design solutions.

  1. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment that requires the management of multiple projects at one time.
  2. Excellent writing and communication skills.
  3. Excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to complete a task or project, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
  4. Excellent professional demeanor and ability to collaborate with other departments
