What does the job involve?

Summary: Performs work in fabrication of thermal insulations that involve machines, operations, or processes requiring maximum dexterity and mechanical skill. Works on advanced and experimental projects as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Sets up and operates equipment such as metal foil power crimper, slitters and continuous seam welder.
  • Operates spot welders when welding large assemblies or skins.
  • Makes large skins by piecing, installing and assembling compete insulation.
  • Loads and unloads materials and cure mold into and out of ovens, while monitoring cure time and temperature.
  • Removes pieces from curing molds and returns molds for loading. Loads and unloads and tends curing equipment.
  • Performs shrink tape forming.
  • Fabricates parts and assemblies to blueprint, making part layout and performing hand forming.
  • Hand forms rubber products such as bellows, boots, and rubber joints.
  • Makes patterns and layouts for Min- K blankets for duct assemblies.
  • Performs all sewing machine operations such as sewing, stitching and developing blankets for all types of ducting assemblies.
  • Performs all operations in the spray booth, such as painting by using primers, and electroflim.
  • Performs all operations and procedures of the swivel test machine.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Degree or General Education Degree; or 3-5 years of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities: Must be able to read blueprints.

Tools used:

  • Light hand tools such as scissors, knives, snips, hand crimpers, rollers, mallets, ball peens, pinching pliers, paint brushes, screw drivers, rules, scale, templates, and patterns.

Materials used:

  • Fiberglass insulation stock, formed foil skins and stock, impregnated fiberglass stock, and molded insulations, fabric covering, rubber-base paints, resins, catalysts, solvents, adhesives, abrasives, plastic tape, metal foil and fiberglass insulation.
