We are currently seeking a full-time Assistant Controller for our El Cajon location.

The expected pay scale for this role is $91,000.00 - $109,000.00

What Does the Job Involve?

Responsible for overseeing accounting functions under general direction of Controller. Ensure the timely preparation of the month-end close including, but not limited to, journal entries, account reconciliations, revenue recognition, cost analysis, and overall financial statement analysis and reporting. Assist the Controller and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with the preparation and analysis of budgetary financial data.

What will my responsibilities include?

  • Timely preparation of the monthly financial close, including but not limited to: journal entry preparation and review, general ledger cost analysis including the review of labor and overhead variances, inventory adjustments, and month-end work in process reconciliations, revenue recognition analysis, including gross margin reconciliation reports, preparation of depreciation and fixed asset accounting entries within separate accounting software, preparation of month end account reconciliations for a majority of balance sheet accounting and preparation of weekly key financial indicators and soft close reports.
  • Support cost accounting activities that determine costs of business activity such as raw material Purchases, inventory, and labor. May involve analysis of data obtained and report results.
  • Lead the preparation of short-term cash flow projections, including the forecasting of future receipts and disbursements. Manage past due collections, prioritize vendor payments, and manage banking activities.
  • Lead year-end financial audit preparation including “Prepared By Client” schedules.
  • Prepare or assist with the preparation of various financial reports and charts on a timely basis.
  • Support annual physical inventory count, liaise with the external auditor, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and requirements.
  • Assist the Controller and CFO with the preparation of annual budget data. Assist with cost control procedures. May conduct special cost studies and/or develop or improve methods of controlling and calculating cost.
  • Drive the use and contribute to the further development of ERP system functionality. Streamline accounting processes where possible. Effectively integrate the use of Microsoft Office systems for analysis and presentation of ERP data.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to act as a change agent, respond to shifting or establishing of priorities or deadlines, and work in a team environment.
  • Be capable of working independently without close supervision when necessary; be a self-starter and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Must be detail-oriented, familiar with personal computers including Microsoft Office, and possess a high level of integrity. Must be familiar with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Assist Controller and oversee department personnel (Staff Accountant, Payroll, and Accounts Payable). Provide guidance over daily work activities.
  • Demonstrate ability to appear for work on time, follow directions from a supervisor, interact well with co-workers, understand, and follow work rules and procedures, comply with corporate policies, goals, and objectives, accept constructive criticism, establish goals and objectives, and exhibit initiative and commitment.

What Qualifications Should I Have?

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 plus years of accounting experience, manufacturing industry preferred. Knowledge of GAAP and IFRS accounting standards is required.
