Who is SSP?

Senior Aerospace SSP specializes in designing, manufacturing, and qualifying complex ducting systems for aerospace applications. Since its humble roots in 1945, the campus has now expanded to include a 59,000 sq. ft high-volume production facility, in addition to its legacy 131,000 ft2 main buildings which combined, accommodate over 500 employees. Vertically integrated with its own foundry, fabrication shop, and ISO-certified engineering lab, Senior Aerospace SSP was acquired by Senior PLC in 1995 and has continued its expansion into new programs and technologies. 

What does the job involve?

Summary: The Process Quality Engineer (PQE) is responsible for the maintenance of the aerospace standard quality requirements in accordance with the latest revision of AS9100 and the international standard ISO9001.  THE PQE must also have knowledge of the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (Nadcap) special process commodities (e.g., Nondestructive Testing, Heat Treating, Chemical Processing, Nonconventional Machining, Welding, etc.), aerospace specification requirements used in the industry, familiar with Measuring and Testing equipment (M&TE) utilized for quality control and inspection.  The PQE must have effective communication, technical writing and investigate problems systematically.  The PQE will be required to plan and present to management articles such as procedures, methods, tools etc. to further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the quality management system.     

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Maintain compliance with AS9100 and ISO9001 quality systems requirements and standards.
  • Review process and documentation to measure adherence to the quality standards, customer flowdown and Nadcap requirements.
  • Manage internal surveillance activities and external audits (e.g., 3rd Party accreditation, customer, and government).
  • Develop, revise and implement compliant quality procedures.
  • Coordinate with Contracts, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, etc. to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement and monitor updated processes.
  • Work closely with Special Process Leadership and assist activities pertaining to the Nadcap PRI audits.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers and processors to build and maintain a positive and stable working relationship.
  • Monitor SSP’s Quality Metrics and participate in projects to maintain or exceed company goals.
  • Follow all Senior (SSP and Corporate level) policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as needed and assigned.

 Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree is required with a strong preference for a degree in an engineering discipline or other technical field.
  • Experience in Quality Systems Administration; experienced in Quality system auditing and customer audits.
  • Thorough knowledge of quality procedures.
  • Prior experience in the aerospace industry with Nadcap special process required.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.  The PQE must have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and vendors.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Other Abilities: It is preferred that the PQE has some level of prior experience in quality systems administration; quality system auditing and customer audits; and knowledge of aerospace quality procedures. The PQE will be expected to possess knowledge of up-to-date inspection and control methods in the aerospace metal industry and the ability to understand, modify and interpret complex technical information to draw valid conclusions, using detailed analysis and extreme conscientiousness.
