We are currently seeking a Pre-set tool grinder and cutter for our 3rd shift Monday-Friday (11:30 pm – 6:30 am) at our El Cajon location in San Diego, CA.

The expected pay range for this role is $21.00-$26.00 dollars an hour. Plus a 25% differential pay.

What Does the Job Involve?

The Pre-Set Tool Grinder and Cutter performs grinding, resharpening, and modification of machine tool cutters and tool accessories. Creates custom cutters and accessories as required. Pre-sets setting tools & monitor cutters and their holders for wear to maintain accuracy.

What will my responsibilities include?

  • Fabricates custom cutters to exact tolerances per DWGs and Electronic cutter sheets.
  • Selects and mounts grinding wheels on machines according to specifications using hand tools and apply knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures.
  • Sets up and operates various types of machinery for re-grinding of cutters, set clearance angle, adjusts stops, and aligns work to achieve close tolerances.
  • Measures dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Grinds to tolerances as close as .0002 inch using optical or mechanical precision measuring devices to verify work meets specifications.
  • Computes numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools, micrometers, scales, and gauges; adjusts tools to produce specific cuts.
  • Monitors inventory levels; requests purchase orders when un-stocked items are needed.
  • Identifies returned tools, examines router, and inspects tools for damage and wear; identifies CNC program used, locates, and makes a copy of correct ECS as needed.
  • Changes and dresses grinding wheels.
  • Performs basic maintenance cleaning and lubricating machines and production equipment.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the work area and ensures proper handling of tools, and equipment.

What Key Skills and Experience Do I Need?

  • Ability to maintain very close tolerances when grinding cutting tools.
  • Experience grinding tungsten carbide tooling.
  • Familiarity with tool setting equipment, Zoller, Devlieg, and custom height gage measuring systems
  • Ability to read tool prints.
  • Hand and mechanical inspection equipment.
  • Personal Computer; Microsoft Windows.

What Qualifications Should I Have?

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 – 7 years of manufacturing experience using different types of grinding machines or grind tools.
