Position:                       Engineering Manager (Mechanical)

Location:                       San Diego, CA

Travel:                           5% international travel may be required.

 

Duties:             Evaluate and analyze manufacturing engineering process, product, materials and/or equipment specifications in accordance with engineering principles and company capabilities. Lead tool planning/programming projects and address design, supplier, and production issues to ensure project timelines are met. Apply sound engineering principles to design and develop metal forming processes, and to initiate and deliver technical activities that result in new or improved aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and high temperature super alloy products and processes for current or next generation programs. Research, recommend, and implement new manufacturing technologies and engineering methods to improve productivity, cost, and quality standards. Ensure the preparation, review, and translation of three dimensional engineering models and drawings into format compatible with system capabilities. Develop and maintain key performance indicators for processes and performance measurement tools by utilizing query analysis, spreadsheet reports, and engineering software tools. Reduce product and process variation by applying engineering data analysis and design, as well as empirically verified continuous improvement methods. Manage 2-10 Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programmers, process planning engineers, metallurgical engineers, and estimator engineers. Provide day-to-day supervision and support in employee recruiting, managing, training and development, and performance evaluation efforts. Oversee creation of metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), and flash-butt welding methods (FBW), material heat treatments, expansion, and stress relief to produce forged and extruded near-net shape aerospace components. Oversee the direction and completion of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) initiatives using software such as Solidworks, Catia, Surfcam, and Vericut to design new machining fixtures and numerical control (NC) programs for lathes and multi-axis machining centers.

Salary:              $115,167 – $139,000 per year

Education:     Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field (foreign equivalent accepted); and

Experience:   5 years' progressive post-bachelor's experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, Tool Design & Planning Engineer, Mechanical Engineering Manager, or similar position.

Skills / requirements:

5 years' experience in each of the following:

  1. Designing and developing metal forming processes and tooling for aluminum, titanium, stainless steel and high-temperature super alloys;
  2. Using welding methods (MIG, TIG, and FBW), material heat treatments, expansion, and stress relief;
  3. Using CAD/CAM (Solidworks, Catia, Surfcam, and Vericut) software for the design of new machining fixtures and NC programs for lathes and multi-axis machining centers;
  4. Leading NPI process for new programs and continuous improvement initiatives;
  5. Scheduling engineering personnel/activities and development of project plans to ensure timely execution;
  6. Analyzing and interpreting customer engineering and specifications for complex aerospace parts and assemblies;
  7. Developing, implementing and maintaining procedures for data control including customer engineering and proprietary internal designs; and
  8. Maintaining revision and configuration control of internal and external data.
  • Employer will conduct drug screening and will check criminal history for last seven years.
