Who is Senior Aerospace Bird Bellows?

Based in Congleton, Cheshire, Senior Aerospace Bird Bellows was established in 1975 as a family run operation serving the petro-chemical and gas industries. Since then, we have evolved to become one of the industry leaders in the design, development and manufacture of pressure duct systems, flexible joints and insulation for highly regulated industries. We have established customers in aerospace (both civil and military), as well as in the nuclear, oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.

 

What does the job involve?

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Day to day management of the entire supply chain operation (Forecast/Demand, Supply planning, Sourcing, Warehouse, Logistics) to optimise performance relevant to Quality, Cost and Delivery
  • Work with the purchasing team to enhance current and develop new capability in conjunction with improved systems and processes. Review current supply base and identify improvement opportunities
  • Take the lead in developing strategic relationships with suppliers to ensure stability of supply, covered by contractual engagement and enforced by associated SLA’s
  • Control inventory levels to ensure appropriate stock turns are achieved
  • Support daily planning activities
  • Hold a key role in the SIOP process
  • With the Logistics management team, review, implement and support process and capability improvements, ensuring that the business is fully supported throughout
  • In collaboration with the Business Development and Engineering teams, understand the NPI pipeline to ensure Supply Chain readiness
  • Influence the business strategy to support continual growth and profitability

 

ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate as an active member of the internal audit team, conducting audits on the Quality System
  • Demonstrate and emphasise to all personnel a commitment to quality and continuous improvement. Maintain a high level of participation and enthusiasm for Lean Events and generally support the drive for the continual improvement of processes, products and people.
  • Maintain a high standard of health and safety based upon safe working practices
  • Ensure that all work activities and records comply with Company Policies, Procedures and Codes of Practice

What key skills, experience and qualifications do I need?

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Proven capability of managing a purchasing function within a technically demanding environment
  • Significant experience of implementing and managing a supplier rating, engagement and development programme
  • Experience of negotiating with suppliers to achieve favourable terms
  • Experience in delivering a customer focussed service.

 

Desirable

  • Experience of budget management
  • Exposure to the development and deployment of sourcing strategies
  • Understanding of SIOP business lifecycle
  • Experience of Contractual law pertinent to sourcing and product supply
  • Skilled in delivery of commercial negotiations

 

 

Qualifications and training

CIPS Qualified or equivalent professional qualification/experience

Desirable

Degree or a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience

Job related skills and abilities

Essential

  • Proven and demonstrable knowledge of the complex Aerospace and Non-Aerospace supply chain
  • Proven capability of managing a full MRP order book in support of a manufacturing/delivery schedule
