Who is Senior Aerospace Bird Bellows?
Based in Congleton, Cheshire, Senior Aerospace Bird Bellows was established in 1975 as a family run operation serving the petro-chemical and gas industries. Since then, we have evolved to become one of the industry leaders in the design, development and manufacture of pressure duct systems, flexible joints and insulation for highly regulated industries. We have established customers in aerospace (both civil and military), as well as in the nuclear, oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.
What does the job involve?
- Demonstrate a safety conscious attitude when performing designated tasks, always working in accordance with relevant Safe Systems of Work Instructions and within any specific guidelines.
- Utilise tools and machinery in safe manner and in accordance with all Risk Assessments, safety instructions/Safe Systems of Work and previous training provided.
- Immediately suspend use of, and report, any defective or unsafe tools, machinery to the Facilities Manager and HSE & Site Services Manager.
- Maintain staff welfare facilities to a good and agreed standard.
- Responsible for installing, replacing, repairing site fixtures and fittings.
- Responsible for maintaining site grounds, gardens, and green spaces.
- Be competent and confident to work at height for gutter maintenance and minor roof repairs using necessary safe access equipment (MEWP/ Scaffolding etc) full training provided.
- Responsible for coordinating waste hazardous waste and scrap metal collections utilising forklift trucks.
- Prepare and apply construction materials to build and maintain structures.
- Unload and carry materials as required safely with harm to them self or others.
- When using materials and substances, ensure you are trained and apply safety precautions required by relevant COSHH Assessments, material safety data sheets or risk assessments, ensuring that these are followed.
- Ensure that the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) is used for the operations being performed and ensure that PPE is appropriately stored or replaced as necessary.
- Liaise with the Production Team Leaders as necessary to agree mutually acceptable time periods in which to schedule cleaning of areas maintenance work, with least disruption to production activity.
- Use only the machinery and tools that you have been trained and authorised to operate.
- Ensure that any foreign object debris created during maintenance work activity is properly segregated to avoid any foreign object risk to work in progress.
- Ensure that any waste material generated is processed in accordance with requirements of the Environmental Management System, using the correct waste disposal stream.
- Ensure that all company documentation or software applications is appropriately completed when performing maintenance tasks.
- Attend training or participate in improvement events as required. Also update any training or qualifications needed for fulfilment and performance of your duties.
- Assist in the development of any maintenance related documentation and processes, effectively communicating maintenance requirements to staff as necessary.
- Ensure that the required standards of behaviour and discipline are adhered to.

- ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide necessary assistance to outside contractors employed by the company, in the fulfilment of their duties.
- Promote workspace organisation in accordance with Lean 5S principles and generally help to maintain a high standard of housekeeping throughout the factory.
- Maintain a high standard of health and safety based upon safe working practices.
- Ensure that all work activities and records comply with Company Policies, Procedures and Codes of Practice.

What key skills, experience and qualifications do I need?
Experience and knowledge
Essential
- Health & Safety must be literate and understand safe working practices and the need for maintaining a safe environment.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of a construction worker and working outside in all weathers
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Good time management skills.
- Experience as construction worker
- Experience in operating equipment like trench rammers, drills, pneumatic hammers etc.
- Knowledge of mixing and pouring construction material (concrete, sand, grout etc.)
- Knowledge of basic engineering and construction principles and methods
- Able to work in a team
- Able to read instructions and drawings
