Drop Hammer Operator B ( 2nd shift- 3:30pm to 2:00am )

What does the job involve?

Summary: Sets up and operates small and medium size drop hammers for standard runs and production parts in accordance with established methods and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Set up drop hammers for standard runs on production parts where procedures have been established by past shop practice.
  • Aligns and secures punch and die to drop hammer head and bed.
  • Operates drop hammer to form simple parts.
  • Run furnaces to form titanium parts.
  • Checks parts to template.
  • May be required to use hand tools in forming operations or in making minor corrections or alterations to the punch or die.
  • May operate other machines in forming, planning and shearing.
  • Box up dies, install inserts, and pour the dies.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Degree or General Education Degree; or 1-2 years of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnish in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities: Must have the ability to closely work with sheet metal workers and share knowledge. Must be able to read blueprints.

Tools used:

  • Impact drill, overhead crane, caliper, micrometer, crescent wrench, thickness gage, mallet, plastic hammer, rubber, brushes, torches and templates

Materials used:

  • 321 stainless steel tube stock, Alloy 625, and Alloy 718, Titanium and Aluminum.
