 Who is Senior Aerospace Bird Bellows?

Based in Congleton, Cheshire, Senior Aerospace Bird Bellows was established in 1975 as a family run operation serving the petro-chemical and gas industries. Since then, we have evolved to become one of the industry leaders in the design, development and manufacture of pressure duct systems, flexible joints and insulation for highly regulated industries. We have established customers in aerospace (both civil and military), as well as in the nuclear, oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.

What does the job involve?

The Composite Manufacturing Engineer supports the new production Introduction (NPI) Team through the following core activities:

  1. Definition and cost estimating of manufacturing processes for new designs.
  2. Definition of tooling requirements
  3. Production of job cards and work instructions
  4. Management of development test units to prove manufacturing concepts.
  5. Production of Process flow maps and PFMEA’s to support NPI stage reviews.
  6. Resolution of production issues
  7. Supporting the NPI team by developing, driving, and reporting the manufacturing activities of the project plan
  8. Managing production risks with the use of tools such as Process Failure Mode and Effects analysis.

 What key skills, experience and qualifications do I need?

Essential 

  • Experience of composite manufacturing processes, primarily oven cured pre-preg parts in a highly regulated industry
  • Leading process development activities for new parts
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all business levels including customer liaison

Desirable

  • Manufacturing & assembly work
  • Composite manufacturing processes
  • Aerospace or other highly regulated manufacturing environments

Qualifications & Training 

Essential

  • Experience of Composite engineering

Desirable 

  • ONC Engineering

Job related skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of composite layup
