Senior CNC Machinist - What does the job involve?

Ensuring the best manufacturing techniques are carried out within the Machine Shop by practical application of the most appropriate methods of programming, setting and operation of the machine tools and to stimulate an atmosphere of continuous improvement.

Hours of work: 39 hours per week.

Dayshift - Monday to Thursday 6.45am to 3.30pm and Friday 7.00am to 1.00pm with 30-minute unpaid break for lunch

Senior CNC Machinist - What will my responsibilities include?’

  • Programming, setting, and operating all machines within their area of expertise.
  • Ensuring that the methods, tooling, and fixtures used to effectively achieve a cost-effective quality product in accordance with the production requirements.
  • In conjunction with the support team, develop standards of work for NPI / modified products being introduced to the manufacturing area.
  • Help move existing machining processes to other areas of the machine shop to aid production.
  • Train and hand over machining processes to other members of the production team.
  • Monitoring the process during manufacture to ensure total process control is maintained, ensuring an energetic pursuit of improved methods and production times.
  • Ensuring that the required Quality standards are achieved, reporting any non-conformances according to the company procedure. Work with associated LPE departments to identify root cause and corrective actions required to prevent discrepancies.
  • Ensuring that high standards of Health & Safety and housekeeping are maintained within the manufacturing area.
  • Ensuring that preventative maintenance schedules are strictly carried out.
  • The Maintenance of CNC Programs, tooling and fixturing records within the cell.
  • Ensuring standard work/setting sheets are created and maintained, and appropriate training delivered.

Senior CNC Machinist - What key skills and experience do I need?

  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK (Essential)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working on the required work centres, within a high precision manufacturing environment
  • Wide ranging manufacturing process knowledge, across differing materials in varying applications
  • Experience of working to engineering drawings or work instructions i.e. Job Cards
  • Knowledge of how-to machine, handle and protect all types of manufactured components
  • Experience and ability to program, set and operate different machine tools
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings with a high-level understanding of geometric dimensions & tolerances
  • Programming various machine controls for the desired area (Desirable)
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety (Desirable)
  • Good understanding of Oil & Gas, Defence, Aerospace & Nuclear sector (Desirable)
  • CNC Programming both “on” and or “off” line (Desirable)

Senior CNC Machinist - What qualifications should I have?

  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship in mechanical engineering.
  • Basic Skills in Microsoft office software applications
  • Security Clearance (Desirable)
