Summary: Inspects machined, fabricated, welded, composite, or 3D printed parts and tools by performing the following duties.
Reports To: Inspection Supervisor, Tooling Manager, or equivalent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
- Reading and interpreting drawings (i.e., 2D prints, 3D PDFs, model-based definition) produced and annotated per the ASME Y14 standards.
- Interpreting GD&T per ASME Y14.5 (2018, 2009, 1994, and potentially older ANSI versions).
- Performing duties specific to the assigned department as defined by the appropriate quality processes and standard operating procedures.
- Selecting inspection methods appropriate for the drawing requirements, including determining number of points to measure to define various hardware features.
- Operating CMM Arms (Faro, Hexagon, Keyance, etc) to inspect hardware. Includes the use of a variety of probes, optical scanners, laser scanners, etc.
- Using Verisurf, or similar software, to record and interpret data points taken via CMM and produce reports against drawing requirements.
- Using traditional inspection equipment, such as height gages, calipers, micrometers, bore gages, thread gages, etc. to inspect hardware.
- Using tooling to fixture and inspect hardware.
- Inputting inspection results into forms and databases, including but not limited to: Net-Inspect, AS9102 forms, SSP or customer forms, etc.
- Recording and notifying appropriate personnel of nonconformances.
- Working with Manufacturing, Quality, and Design teams to help determine causes and solutions of nonconformances.

Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or 3- 5 years of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have experience in the latest versions of Verisurf inspection software
- Must have experience reading and interpreting drawings made per ASME Y14 standards
- Must have experience reading and interpreting GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018 (or 2009)
Required Skills:
- Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Other Abilities: Must be able to read and interpret detailed blueprints, shop travelers, and engineering sketches. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
