We are currently seeking a full-time Sr. Tool & Die Maker for our 1st shift at our Ketema facility in El Cajon, CA.
What Does the Job Involve?
The Sr. Tool & Die Maker plans, organizes, designs, and constructs close tolerance machine tools and dies from metal forming equipment using conventional machine tools.
What will my responsibilities include?
- Fabricates and assembles jigs and fixtures to close tolerance limits from raw stock, machined parts, sheet metal, and fasteners.
- Operates all types of metal fabricating machine tools, sheet metal tools, hand and power equipment, and precision measuring devices.
- Constructs and repairs machine shop tools, gauges, fixtures, jigs, or dies for use within the establishment.
- Reworks difficult parts: e.g. blend metal to repair damaged face surface, remove broken taps usually from a blind hole, etc.
- Uses blueprints, engineering sketches, general verbal instructions, and model parts.
- Installs bushings.
- Reviews work for dimensions, finishes, clearances, etc., to ensure work meets required specifications.
- Lays out reference points and dimensions for fabricating operations.
- Plans and develops layouts as outlined in blueprints, applying knowledge of trigonometry and product design.
- Demonstrates ability to appear for work on time, works overtime, when necessary, follows directions from a supervisor, interacts well with co-workers, understands, and follows work rules and procedures, works safely, complies with corporate policies, goals, and objectives, accepts constructive feedback, establishes goals and objectives, and exhibits initiative and commitment.
- Communicates with engineers, tool design personnel, and periodically internal customers regarding assigned special projects.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the work area, proper handling of tools, equipment and stock to prevent loss.
- Maintains an organized work environment.
What Key Skills and Experience Do I Need?
- Ability to read blueprints, engineering sketches, drawings, and/or templates.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools, cranes, drill press, electric lifts, lathes, mills, jig bores, forklift, and pallet jacks.
What Qualifications Should I Have?
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Vocational/Specialized training for Tool & Die preferred.
Experience:
- 10 years of industry experience.
- 5 years of complex machine Tool & Die construction.
