We are currently seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician to operate out of our Ketema facility in El Cajon, CA.

What Does the Job Involve?

The Lab Technician performs material testing, evaluation, and inspection of production coupons, parts and/or assemblies. Analyzes metallographic and/or chemical properties of coupons, samples, and/or materials required of aerospace manufacturing. Documents lab reports certifying machinery, processes, materials, parts/assemblies, and personnel. Supports special process evaluation and substantiation per internal, industry, and customer requirements.

What will my responsibilities include?

  • Ensures quality standards and specifications are met on in-process and finished products and subassemblies.
  • Inspects and tests parts, subassemblies and materials, products and work in progress for conformance to quality standard specifications. Tests and measures assemblies for accuracy to verify functional specifications.
  • Prepares samples, coupons, and/or materials for metallographic evaluation and testing.
  • Assists with set up and conducts material experiments, tests, and analyses, using techniques such as near surface examination, Rockwell Hardness, etching, conductivity testing, and/or solution analysis.
  • Supports testing and evaluation of special process operations including, but not limited to, weld, nonconventional, coating, chemical processing (including dry film lube), and heat treatment.
  • Maintains, cleans, and/or sterilizes laboratory instruments, equipment, and work areas.
  • Records results of testing, computes defect percentage and other statistical measures, prepares inspection and test results. Recommends corrective procedures and repairs.
  • Assists with scheduling and performance of routine testing and maintenance.
  • Supports goals and objectives required of laboratory.
  • Ensures lab is meeting environmental requirements such as nonvolatile residue (NVR) and temperature control.
  • Receives and maintains personal training certification for respective testing and inspection methods.
  • Communicates clearly in both verbal and written forms with internal and external customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Collaborates with other colleagues and departments as needed.
  • Supports safety and quality programs including safety opportunities and quality improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrates ability to appear for work on time, follows directions from a supervisor, interacts well with co-workers, understands and follows work rules and procedures, complies with corporate policies, goals and objectives, accepts constructive criticism, establishes goals and objectives, and exhibits initiative and commitment.
  • Ability to stay up-to-date on customer and industry requirements for processes and material testing to support procedure and process improvement.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. May require training in hazardous material handling, dependent upon job assignment. May be required to attend external trainings and/or obtain certifications specific to job accountabilities.

 What Key Skills and Experience Do I Need?

  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and inspection instructions.
  • Maintains filing systems and logs.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to write and read technical reports regarding material testing.
  • Ability to work with quality inspection tools including micrometer and calipers.
  • Familiar with materials testing equipment relating to tensile testing, hardness (Rockwell), bend test, grinding/polishing, intergranular oxidation (IGO) and intergranular attack (IGA), titration, etching, and alpha case.
  • Ability to work in clean room environments.

What Qualifications Should I Have?

Education:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • 2 years of general work experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment, preferred.
