Who is SSP?
Senior Aerospace SSP, specializes in designing, manufacturing, and qualifying complex ducting systems for aerospace applications. Since its humble roots in 1945, the campus has now expanded to include a 59,000 sq. ft high-volume production facility, in addition to its legacy 131,000 ft2 main buildings which combined, accommodate over 400 employees. Vertically integrated with its own foundry, fabrication shop, and ISO certified engineering lab, Senior Aerospace SSP acquired by Senior PLC in 1995 and has continued its expansion into new programs and technologies.
What does the job involve?
Summary: Sets up lathe and spin metal parts; make simple wood forms and follow blocks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
- Performs set ups by fastening chuck on spindle, centering and clamping sheet metal dies by use of friction block.
- Selects proper tool or roller and fixture.
- Operates spinning lathe to shape simple parts of ordinary material such as aluminum and 18-8 stainless by applying lubricant and pressing the bit or roller against the revolving sheet metal, preventing excessive thinning of metal until it conforms to desired shape.
- Trims and burrs parts.
- Performs rework, repair and other associated operations in connection with the work described.
- Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
- Other duties with the work as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills:
- Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Other Abilities: Must be able to visualize shapes. Must be familiar with working properties of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Tools used:
- Hand tools, wood and metal chucks, wood friction wheels, hand bit and roller type forming tools, back stops, measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers, and various sizes of spinning lathes and attachments.
Materials used:
- Oil, soap, wax, ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the form of sheet tubing and wood.
