Who is Senior Bird Bellows?

Based in Congleton, Cheshire, Senior Bird Bellows was established in 1975 as a family run operation serving the petro-chemical and gas industries. Since then, we have evolved to become one of the industry leaders in the design, development and manufacture of pressure duct systems, flexible joints and insulation for highly regulated industries. We have established customers in aerospace (both civil and military), as well as in the nuclear, oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.

What are the key duties and responsibilities?

  1. Read, interpret and understand engineering drawings and associated shop packet paperwork (ie Job Card, Kitting Lists and Work Instructions) in order to determine how products are to be correctly manufactured.
  2. Ensure that any measuring or production equipment used (and requiring calibration) is within its re-calibration date prior to use, reporting any expired items to the Team Leader
  3. Select tools, check condition and set up in accordance with job card and/or work instructions, reporting any defective, broken or excessively worn tooling to the Team Leader.  Ensure that all tooling is correctly and safely stored and located after use.
  4. Accurately record the time expended on production work to the correct works order number on the EFACS recording system.   Record components lost to the correct scrap code on the EFACS recording system.
  5. Ensure that all production related work activities and records comply with relevant quality standards and NADCAP requirements. 
  6. Demonstrate a commitment to quality and continuous improvement. 
  7. Use hand tools, production machinery and tooling to cut, machine, form, shape and size components to their required dimensions specified on engineering drawings.
  8. Use available software and program CNC equipment for the purpose of machining/drilling product, check for compliance and edit accordingly, produce most efficient cycle for material and performance.
  9. Visually check the part prior to starting work to ensure it meets the standards required.
  10. During each Job Card operation, check the quality of your work and confirm that it conforms to the requirements by recording & stamping the operation complete with any required measurements.  Verify that the product is free from foreign objects prior to passing to the next stage of processing.
  11. Attend training or participate in improvement events as required.  Support the Team Leader in the training of new or temporary personnel.

What key skills, experience and qualifications do I need?

  • Experienced in working within an engineering environment.
  • CNC Machining & Programming of multi-axis CNC equipment
  • Experience of working with manufacturing jigs and assembly aids.
  • Experienced in using production tooling and machinery.
  • NVQ Level3 Engineering apprenticeship
  • CNC Programming related training
  • Ability to inspect work to both company and customer standards
  • Ability to accurately measure using equipment such as a Vernier callipers and Pi Tapes.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings .
  • Ability to follow “job cards”
