Job Title : Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor

Reporting To : Head of HSE, Facilities & Maintenence

Location: Senior Aerospace BWT, Macclesfield

Scope and Purpose of the Role:

We are a Global, leading manufacturing organisation specialising in the manufacture of lightweight ducting systems for the aerospace industry. We are one of a group of manufacturing businesses and are based in Macclesfield, Cheshire.

We are seeking to appoint a HSE Advisor to work as part of the HSE team which is led by the Head of HSE, Facilities and Maintenance. The role will be based at the manufacturing facility in Macclesfield, Cheshire.

The HSE Advisor position requires a hands-on approach to all HSE related matters. The successful applicant must have a keen eye for detail, be organised, detailed and possess  demonstrable passion for cultural safety. They will be part of a team who are wholly focussed on the continuous improvement of all HSE processes across the business and will be an ambassador for the ‘safety-first’ culture.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist the Head of HSE, Directors, Departmental Managers and the HSE committee with actions necessary to comply with any statutory requirements and the daily HSE functions of the business.
  • To assist in the development, promotion and maintenance of the company’s HSE systems (ISO14001, ISO45001).
  • To provide advice and guidance on statutory compliance and to keep updated on regulatory changes.
  • Participate in change management projects to ensure HSE is included and always controlled to ensure safe execution of projects.
  • Foster effective relationships at all levels, using strong interpersonal skills.
  • Deliver monthly toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training as required.
  • To assist the Head of HSE in the development, maintenance and communication of meaningful Health, Safety & Environment performance metrics.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, safety tours, internal/external system audits and to develop/track action plans that address any key findings.
  • To review and where necessary update safety procedures in line with current HSE regulatory requirements. To promote their implementation and ensure their effectiveness by continuous monitoring and review.
  • To support and drive the Risk Assessment process with the HSE team to ensure the focus on risk management is an embedded structure throughout the business.
  • To update and publish Risk Assessments and Corrective Action plans and areas of non-compliance or concern to the wider team.
  • To compile and maintain COSHH data and raise the awareness necessary to ensure the operation meets its regulatory responsibilities.
  • To ensure that company procedures for accident and near miss reporting are followed by employees and appropriate corrective Actions are implemented in a timely manner to prevent re-occurrence.
  • To assist the HSE Manager in investigating accident and incident investigations in line with company policy and procedures.

 

Person Specification:

  • To have good all-round knowledge of industry based HSE including (but not limited to) Regulatory requirements, ACOPs, Guidance notes
  • A demonstrable and realistic understanding of the Risk Assessment process.
  • Sound understanding of COSHH and its requirements.
  • Good understanding and experience of contractor management.
  • To have a sound understanding of HSE standards such as ISO45001and ISO14001 and the process of implementation and maintenence.
  • To have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and have the confidence and ability to present to groups from all disciplines and levels.
  • MS Office skills (excel/ppt/word/outlook)
  • Demonstrable understanding of internal auditing.
  • To be able to take the initiative and where appropriate to work with the minimum of

  • To be able to apply reason and persuasion, when needed, in order to promote action and implement change.

Qualifications/Experience:

NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health.

ISO45001and ISO14001 Knowledge

Knowledge and experience of COSHH and Chemical handling

Accident/Incident investigation

HSE related training

Internal auditing

Environmental/Sustainability initiatives
